Chava Goldstein is the youngest, brattiest child of the Goldstein household. She arrived at Hogwarts used to getting whatever she wanted, and fairly convinced that since people seemed to blame her for things that went wrong and then cut her some slack because she "didn't know any better," there was no real point in following the rules exactly. She befriended Gladys Gudgeon while in line for the Sorting, and was put into Slytherin with her.

Chava soon discovered (especially after Gladys' accident with a Time-Turner) that Slytherin was a bit more dangerous than home. Mostly, there were less mothers busy cooking chicken soup and more nasty upperclassmen who didn't like to be bothered while doing their homework. At one point, she even decided that she wanted to transfer to Hufflepuff, and Mrs. Goldstein dutifully came in and threatened to sue Dumbledore if he wouldn't let her transfer. It was useless, of course, and no charges were pressed.

Gradually acclamating to Hogwarts, Chava met Andrew Stokes, a twitchy Ravenclaw boy, who she felt was a worthy partner in crime. They stole many newspapers together. (Well, just the one, and they returned it, but it sounds better like that.) Unfortunately, Chava's older brother Asher, a bit paranoid when it came to Ravenclaw boys and his sisters, decided that their friendship was Not Meant To Be and sent many glares of death at Andrew. As though that would stop her.

At the beginning of second year, Chava and Celeste Bletchley had a rather brilliant plan to steal the Bludgers in order to save the Quidditch players from the obvious danger they posed. Unfortunately, the idea was not taken very well by anyone involved in Quidditch.

Chava also has a rat, which was given to her by her brother Gabriel for Chanukkah. Should you ask her about the rat, she will explain enthusiastically. Many times. Should you avoid the subject she will wave the rat cage in your face and ask if you'd like to pet Elan.
